For the past 5 years, VBDO has worked with IUCN NL and WWF NL on the Shared Resources Joint Solutions program. One of the joint activities was to organize a series of three training webinars. The webinars highlighted the relationship between animal husbandry, meat production, deforestation and conversion of nature in Paraguay and the rest of South America. They also addressed solutions.
In addition to influencing the policy of companies and financial institutions, IUCN NL and WWF work together with a wide group of national and international NGOs to achieve policy at the European level. In the European market, products originating from areas where forests or other nature have been destroyed can still be traded.
That is why IUCN NL and WWF NL are pushing for European legislation to keep products from deforested areas off the market. Some companies are already working on this autonomously, but European legislation creates a level playing field for all companies. The European Commission is open to this, and now offers a unique opportunity to think together about a new law.
The VBDO supports this call to action and asks its members to contribute. As a consumer or private investor, you can do this by signing for this law here. Companies can also participate in the consultation (in Dutch).
