Climate mitigation and adaptation

Where ‘climate mitigation’ refers to addressing the causes of climate change, ‘climate adaptation’ refers to the consequences of climate change. This theme is often overlooked, while the increase in extreme weather, cyclones, hailstorms, floods and droughts has a major impact on companies and society.

VBDO investigates to what extent companies have investigated which physical climate impacts pose risks to the company, both for their operations and in the chain. The association is convinced that companies play a major role in societies’ resilience to climate change. Climate-adaptive investments that consider social and ecological aspects play a major role in this. VBDO encourages companies to include climate adaptation in their business strategy, avoid financial risks, and invest in the resilience of societies.
